Frequently asked questions

General

What is a utility bill audit?

A line-by-line review of your gas, electric, or water accounts against the rate schedules and tariffs that apply to your facility. It checks for billing errors, misclassifications, and missed exemptions.

How do utility overcharges happen?

Most accounts are set up once and never re-checked. Rate schedules change, equipment is added, meters drift, and tariffs update but billing rarely catches up unless someone specifically reviews it.

How far back can billing errors be recovered?

This depends on the utility and jurisdiction. Many allow corrections or refunds covering a year or more. We confirm the applicable window for your provider as part of the audit.

Process

What information do I need to provide?

Typically the last 12 months of utility statements for each account you'd like reviewed. Read-only portal access can speed things up but isn't required.

How long does an audit take?

It depends on account complexity and meter count. Simple single-meter accounts move faster than multi-site, multi-meter portfolios.

Will this disrupt my utility service?

No. An audit reviews the account you already have. It doesn't involve switching providers or interrupting service in any way.

Cost & Risk

What does a utility bill audit cost?

Nothing upfront. We're paid only when you recover money. We take a percentage of what we recover on your behalf.

Is there financial risk in requesting an audit?

Reviewing your bills does not put your existing service or account standing at risk. Terms of engagement are agreed to upfront before any review begins.
